Teaching with AI: Ensuring Fairness, Representation, and Inclusivity

DESCRIPTION

*Intermediate computer proficiency required.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a cornerstone of modern education, offering a wide range of tools to enhance teaching and learning. However, AI-powered tools are not free from bias—biases rooted in human history, data sources, and societal stereotypes. These biases can perpetuate inequities, particularly in areas like gender, race, and ability, and can affect both the content delivered and how students interact with these tools.

This course is designed to help educators understand the implications of AI in the classroom, focusing on its role in fostering diversity, inclusion, and representation. Participants will explore how biases emerge in AI algorithms and how they can proactively address them.

By using AI tools effectively, teachers can create more inclusive, accessible, and equitable learning environments for all students, tailoring resources to individual needs and adapting school materials for diverse learners. Moreover, they will learn how AI can be used to detect plagiarism, correct and enhance writing, and improve educational outcomes while safeguarding against overreliance on technology.

By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of how AI tools function, their potential and limitations, and how to mitigate ethical risks associated with AI in education.
